Sustainable Ways to Quilt

Learn five ways that quilting promotes sustainability. Utilize natural dyes, repurpose textiles, and foster community with Sandra Lee Design.

Making something useful out of what you already have has always been at the heart of quilting. Here are five eco-friendly quilting techniques for today.
1. Reuse Clothing
Make quilts out of linens, jeans, and shirts. Every piece has a memory attached to it.
2. Make Use of Natural Dyes
Use natural colors to dye your fabric, such as indigo, avocado pits, and onion skins.
3. Conserve Scraps
Small leftovers can be used to create patchwork art, coasters, or pincushions.
4. Fabric Thrift
Curtains and sheets provide inexpensive yards of fabric.
5. Share and Teach
Transfer knowledge to promote sustainability.
